There are previous editions 4th, 3.5, 3, etc. People still play these editions, but for a new person getting into it, 5e is a good place to start. And, as someone else mentioned, if your social anxiety is so strong that it is negatively impacting your enjoyment of life then you should try to seek some treatment for it.
